About the 2012 Northern Crossing Multisport Challenge

Our 2012 course will be:
- Run One - Hokianga South Head to Opononi (8 km)
- Kayak - Opononi to Rawene (18 km or a contingency triangular buoy course)
- Cycle One - Opononi to Waipapa (81 km) (for non-kayakers)
- Cycle Two - Rawene to Waipapa (74 km) (for kayakers)
- Run Two - Waipapa to Kerikeri Basin (8 km)
A 6.30 am compulsory pre-event briefing will be held at Opononi Area School. Free buses will then carry competitors to the start line.
The multisport event will start at 7.15 am and the duathlon/four fun at 7.45 am. The start times will put kayakers on the incoming tide for the paddle up the harbour to Rawene.
Maximum times
To help you plan your training and, out of respect for volunteer marshals and road users, we have set maximum times for each leg. If you are outside these times, marshals will advise you to withdraw or continue at your own risk.
Run One - 1 hr 25 min
Kayak - 2 hr 30 min
Cycle One - 3 hr 45 min
Cycle Two - 3 hr 25 min
Run Two - 1 hr 25 min
Teams or well prepared individuals should have no difficulty achieving these times.
Entry
An online entry system is in operation. Your online eticket will provide all the detail you need. More expensive late entries will be accepted in cash only at registration on the evening before the event.
Challenge the mid north - have fun and make some new friends. See you at the start!
Prizes
Total prizes exceed $15,000
In 2012 Kerikeri New World is offering $2000 in prizes. $1000 each to a
male and female multisporter who sets a new course record.
Spot prizes include:
- a Giant road bike from Hunter Cycles, Kerikeri
- a Digital SLR camera package from McFadzians Pharmacy, Kerikeri
- 2 x weekend accommodation packages at the Copthorne Hotel, Bay of Islands
- an all inclusive overnight cruise in the Bay of Islands for 2 people on board Ipipiri with Fullers GreatSights
- 8 x day trip packs for 2 people to the famous 'Hole in the Rock' or Cape Reinga with Fullers Great Sights
- 10 x $100 fuel vouchers from BP Kerikeri
- sports shoes from Shoestyles, Kerikeri
- gents & ladies watches from Showcase Jewellers, Kerikeri
- kayak paddles from Johnson Outdoors
Medals will be awarded to category winners.
Trophy winners will also receive hand-crafted wooden pieces by local artisan Malcolm Sexton.
